POSITION TITLE:   LACTATION CONSULTANT
(.4 FTE – 14 hours per week)

South-East Ottawa Community Health Centre is a community-based organization that provides integrated, multi-disciplinary services in the areas of primary health care, social services, and community services.

 JOB SUMMARY

The Lactation Consultant (LC) functions as a member of the Primary Care team. The LC will facilitate two breastfeeding drop-in clinics per week.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current certification as a Lactation Consultant from IBCLC
  • Relevant experience as a Lactation Consultant
  • Experience with pre and post-partum women and their babies
  • Demonstrated experience in the assessment of lactating women and their newborns
  • Understanding and respect of diverse cultural, physical, emotional and psychological responses to birthing, lactation and parenting
  • Familiarity with the Baby Friendly Initiative
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong facilitation skills
  • Good knowledge of community resources
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in English essential, ability to communicate in French or other languages an asset

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitates a breastfeeding support drop-in clinic twice a week
  • Provides breastfeeding assessment, education and counselling to pregnant women and new mothers
  • Maintains client documentation according to professional and Centre standards for charting and reporting procedure.

SALARY RANGE:  $32.89 to $38.70/hour. HOOPP eligible
