The Organization:

South-East Ottawa Community Health Centre (SEOCHC) works with the diverse community of south-east Ottawa and with partners throughout the region to provide and advocate for integrated, holistic primary health care, social services, community development, and health promotion to:

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) will provide accountable, responsive leadership; coordinate and foster healthy relationships with the Board, staff, volunteers and corporate membership; be a strong spokesperson and advocate for our clients and community; provide effective communication and negotiation with funders, partner agencies and elected officials, and ensure that our programs and services meet the needs of our community.

The Fit:

We are seeking an exceptional senior leader with a postgraduate degree in public/health administration, health sciences, social work, or equivalent. The candidate will have substantial progressive experience in community health or social services management, including experience with advocacy, financial management, personnel administration, relations with funding bodies, partners and private sector organizations. The candidate will have proven leadership skills including coaching and mentoring experienced senior staff, conflict resolution, and working with a diverse, inter-professional team.  They will also have demonstrated experience in strategic and operational planning, developing and managing budgets, completing reports, program evaluation, and preparation of funding proposals.  Our ideal candidate will be passionate about community health, and committed to health promotion, community development and harm reduction.  The ED must have strong writing, presentation and verbal communication skills in English.  Both French language skills and/or a language reflective of the diverse communities served by the Centre would be an asset. Please see job description below.

INTERNAL/ EXTERNAL POSTING

POSITION TITLE: Friday Night Youth Zone and After-School Program Coordinator (12 hours/ week on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings)

 

JOB SUMMARY

South-East Ottawa Community Health Centre is a non-profit health, social services and community agency.   We are seeking a Program Coordinator to work in our Friday Night Youth Zone program, and our new after-school program in the Karsh Court Neighbourhood of Ottawa South.

Under the direction of the Health Promoter for Youth or designate, the Program Coordinator is accountable for the safety and wellbeing of children and youth in a busy and active social-recreation environment. They are also responsible for engaging and recruiting participants, as well as for planning, implementing, and leading programs, special events, and other activities.

The successful candidate has a clear understanding of the social determinants of health, such as employment, education, life skills and community action, and supports participants in finding needed supports and services both internal and external.

Work hours for this position are Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Friday nights from 5-10 PM.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or college diploma in a relevant discipline or combination of education and/or relevant experience
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working directly with children and youth
  • Training and experience in program planning, group facilitation, conflict resolution, and crisis management
  • Knowledge of current child and youth issues
  • Experience working in low-income communities and sensitivity to multicultural issues
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Proven organizational and networking skills; knowledge of community resources
  • Self-motivated team player with good interpersonal skills
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification
  • Criminal Record Check
  • Additional languages preferred (French, Somali, Arabic and/or Spanish)
  • Valid Driver’s License is an asset

Salary: $17.90-$19.24/ hour

                                              EARLY YEARS WORKER

                                Part time (17.5 hrs/wk) 12 month contract

 

South-East Ottawa Community Health Centre is a non-profit health, community and social services agency. The Centre is seeking an Early Years Worker to provide educational and support services to facilitate in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of age and culturally appropriate play and learn programs for children (ages 0 to 6 years) and their parents, grandparents and caregivers.  The Early Years worker will liaise with various community networks, parent groups, agencies and resources to ensure quality programs and services. Salary range $20.45 to $24.06/hr (under review).

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post- Secondary degree or diploma in Early Childhood Education.
  • Experience working with young children and adults.
  • Experience in program development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
  • Understanding and sensitivity of poverty, equity and diversity issues.
  • Strong relationship building and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in community outreach
  • Fluency in English is required. French and other languages as asset.
  • Strong computer skills required
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certificate
  • Extensive knowledge of community resources
